Please note that the information requested during registration will be used to determine your legitimacy as a participant of this site. As such, any information you provide that is determined to be false, inaccurate, misleading, or highly suspicious will result in your registration being rejected. This is designed to try to discourage as much as possible those spammers and scammers that tend to plague sites of this nature, to the detriment of all the legitimate members trying to enjoy the features this site provides for them.
Of particular importance is the REQUIREMENT that you provide your REAL full name upon registering. Sorry, but this is not like other sites where anonymity is more the rule.
Also your TRUE location is important. If the location you enter in your profile field does not match the location of your registration IP address, then your registration will be rejected. As such, I strongly urge registrants to avoid using a VPN service to register, as they are often used by spammers and scammers, and as such will be blocked when discovered when auditing new registrations.
Sorry about all these hoops to jump through, but I am quite serious about blocking spammers and scammers at the gate on this site and am doing the very best that I can to that effect. Trust me, I would rather be doing more interesting things with my time, and wouldn't be making this effort if I didn't think it was worthwhile.

alternative to crickets???
SOooooo.... I would really like to start a red eyed tree frog terrarium. My obstacle at this point is that my fiance has put the kibosh on having crickets in our place....
Are there any (noiseless) alternatives that can be fed as a staple prey item for red eyed tree frogs??
do flightless fruit flys or mealworms work???
Thanks all!!

Try dubia roaches. Very easy to breed, noiseless, oderless, and the young ones are perfect for feeding.

I totally agree with Stephen on the dubias, they're all around super easy. But...you have to feed them in a dish to prevent them from disappearing into the substrate. Frogs are not good at learning how to take food from a dish, and dubias don't move enough to really get and amphibian's attention. Frogs are ambush feeders, and prefer that their food just wander by. That being said, I do feed my White's large dubias by hand, but red-eyes are too shy to be fed that way. They'll close their eyes and duck their heads to make your fingers disappear.
Fruit flies are way too small for red-eyes. Mealworms don't really move at all, and are very hard to gutload, and digest for red-eyes. Unfortunately, crickets really are your best bet. Wow, hasn't this been helpful!? Sorry.
Medium crickets, which is what you'll use, don't make noise. If you buy them as needed, maybe once per week, they shouldn't get too smelly.

roaches are pretty quiet, and if you're only doing red eyes, chances are they wouldnt need to eat adult crickets (adults are the ones that can chirp with fully grown "wings") so i wouldnt see a noise issue with crickets if your only getting 1/2 in crickets for them. Though it certainly doesnt hurt to vary up the diet

My red eyes eat 1/2 crickets, at that size they make no noise. I have tried offering roaches ... no go.
