The "best" way is to use a counter-to-counter service such as Delta Dash. However, the cost of shipping this way is often prohibitive. "Second best," IMO, would be air freight collect, or via one of the various door-to-door services such as UPS, Airborne Express, etc.
Lizards, but not snakes, may also be shipped overnight using the US Postal Service.
As for how to pack them, I think John Schmitt (Suncoast Herpetological) gave the best advice on packing. However, I am unable to find the thread that contains the info. If you have the time and patience to search, it should be in the General Business Discussions forum somewhere.
