JOHANNESBURG – South African police say they've arrested 11 suspected members of a major rhino poaching ring.
Police spokesman Vish Naidoo says the suspects include two veterinarians and a game farmer. He says 10 were arrested earlier this week and one was arrested Wednesday.
Naidoo says the suspects are part of a ring linked to many rhino poaching incidents in South Africa.
Wednesday's arrest coincides with World Rhino Day.
Conservationists have declared a campaign to raise funds to protect the animals against the illegal trade of rhino horns. The horns are used for medicinal purposes in parts of China.
The African rhino and its endangered cousin, the black rhino, are targets of the illegal trade.
