Hello. Locality animals come from a specific place in a specific county in a specific state. These babies are F1s. This means that these babies are the first captive generation from founder (wild caught) parents. The nonlocality animals have no locality information and come from anywhere within the range of the species or subspecies. Their captive generation is unknown. They are considered generic stock. After doing some research and seeing how big the adults can get, I realize that a 14" turtle is too big for where I live. I am looking for an Ornate box turtle hatchling. Thanks anyway.

You must have been looking at the Desert Tortoise. These are box turtles (Terrapene o. luteola). Adults get 5-6 inches.

Ok. So, what you have is also known as the Western Ornate box turtle, right?

Depends what taxonomy you go by. I go by the old school taxonomy so I consider these Desert Box Turtles (Terrapene ornata luteola). Further east (from El Paso) is the Ornate Box Turtle (Terrapene ornata ornata). I believe the latest taxonomy calls them all Ornate Box Turtles (Terrapene ornata).
