Glenn,

I apologize if you took my post as a negative on you personally. I intended it more as a discussion on business practices.

You are investing your money to branch into this endeavor. You will recoup your money and then lower prices so you are making a smaller but manageable profit. For the next interest you will invest your money again (taking the risk twice with the same money) and hopefully recoup it. Running on the percentages there will come a time when you will not recoup the investment (no one bats 1.000) and then you won't have the nest egg to invest anymore.

Here's a different view. Invest your initial amount. Market your animals at slightly under market value (25% seems to me to be a drastic cut). Recoup your investment. Make your manageable profit plus put a little aside for expansion/rainy day fund.

On a personal level this is a success if you enjoy it.

On a business level it is a success if you spend your retirement fund on things other than the animal hobby.

I've seen other business owners start with a similiar plan as yours (thought it does sound as if you have most of it covered pretty good) with the intention of coming in substantially lower than the competition. Then in a years time they are burned out because they are working twice as hard to sell twice as much as the competition because the margins where to slim. It's easier to lower your prices than it is to raise them.

I pretty much thought you were discussing business practices. The only thing I saw that may have been personal was that thing about my complaining. I do complain a lot but wasn't complaining about not making money although to some it may have sounded like it. I take it all with a grain of salt too, even though sometimes I get really into my replies. I like to talk and to write. What can I say.

No offense was taken, and I meant it when I said than I appreciate you input. As I allso said that 25% is not written in stone, it could be 15% or 10% - but there will be an extra incentive for people to buy from me. Well thanks again.

Best regards,

Glenn
