Hello!
Either you have not registered on this site yet, or you are registered but have not logged in. In either case, you will not be able to use the full functionality of this site until you have registered, and then logged in after your registration has been approved.
Registration is FREE, so please register so you can participate instead of remaining a lurker....
Please note that the information requested during registration will be used to determine your legitimacy as a participant of this site. As such, any information you provide that is determined to be false, inaccurate, misleading, or highly suspicious will result in your registration being rejected. This is designed to try to discourage as much as possible those spammers and scammers that tend to plague sites of this nature, to the detriment of all the legitimate members trying to enjoy the features this site provides for them.
Of particular importance is the REQUIREMENT that you provide your REAL full name upon registering. Sorry, but this is not like other sites where anonymity is more the rule.
Also your TRUE location is important. If the location you enter in your profile field does not match the location of your registration IP address, then your registration will be rejected. As such, I strongly urge registrants to avoid using a VPN service to register, as they are often used by spammers and scammers, and as such will be blocked when discovered when auditing new registrations.
Sorry about all these hoops to jump through, but I am quite serious about blocking spammers and scammers at the gate on this site and am doing the very best that I can to that effect. Trust me, I would rather be doing more interesting things with my time, and wouldn't be making this effort if I didn't think it was worthwhile.

There are entire sites disguised as advice sites built only to steer people toward one brand of stain or another. And when they aren't singing the praises of their own product they are disguising themselves as consumers and dissing the competition. Makes it hard to decide, it is not always apparent right at first that what one thought was a review is actually an advertisement.

This sort of thing is actually quite common. As a for instance, check out reviews of the photo related companies in New York. There are entire review sites owned and operated by related groups of some of the worst of those kinds of companies. Seriously, the ONLY company I will deal with up there is B&H Photo. Nearly all the rest of them will lie their asses off just to get your credit card number for an order.

We went to a local farm and ranch show last friday, and are glad we did. I'm wanting to do some remodeling a bit at a time, and it gave us the opportunity to meet all kinds of different contractors and gather info and brochures. We switched propane companies on the spot, and are thrilled with this new one. They came out, switched out our old company's tank, transferred the gas that was in the old one, and swapped out a few aging parts at no charge. Best part was, they gave us 300 gallons of propane at more than fifty cents a gallon off what the old company was charging us. They offer a buy-in that we'll be taking advantage of this summer, whereas the other company offered no such program. Even if we'd have paid their full going rate right now, it's still twenty cents cheaper per gallon that the old company.
Ooops, rambling.
I love houses with character. I love this one, but it's a bit blah as far as character goes. A bit too not-Montana. Pergo floors, heavy glass lighting hanging from the ceilings, and such. I've got all sorts of plans, just need the cash to get going. Elk antlers, blue pine, logs, metal roof, etc.
Miter saws are easy, Lucille, once you get the hang of them. Mine scares me way less than my old table saw does. Make sure you share some pictures of your beautiful fence when you're done.

I'm taking a break right now from trimming 2x4s with the miter saw. Nothing to it . I think trying new stuff is sometimes scary, but once you try it, no sweat.
Will take a pic of the fence when done but that may be a while, possibly weeks. The posts and frame are pt, they need to be dried out before staining (new pt is often damp from the chemical baths used to treat it) and I want to stain them before I put the cedar pickets on and stain them.

For the 6 foot fence around the back yard and the deck I am going to use a sprayer. But for these small decorative pickets I am staining them with a brush one at a time. Will try to do maybe 20-30/day, I have 500 to do

Thinking of you today as I'm digging the seventy-billionth posthole out here. Thought you might enjoy this pic, cause I know you've been up to similar stuff.

My new, Montana-y deck railing. Handmade wagon wheels. *squee* Now if we can just the the painter out here to paint the place I'll be done with major stuff this year. It's been sooooooo dry.
How's your projects going? Anyone else been digging holes? (Other than for hiding bodies of course)

Gorgeous, and I love the wagon wheels. And I REALLY love the view. You really found a wonderful, peaceful, beautiful spot to call home.

Yeah, if I lived in a place like that I would HAVE to buy a quality telescope. Where I live I'm completely surrounded by woods, so the only view of the sky is pretty much directly straight up with little latitude sideways towards any point on the compass.

It's better over the other way, though our peaks have finally lost their snowcaps. Watched an interesting documentary on Lewis & Clark the other night. Apparently they almost died int he Bitterroots, and I can believe it.
I've gotta order myself a telescope. You can see every single amazing star in our skies at night. Absolutely no light pollution out here at all. I love to watch them in the winter, when the cold temps really make them twinkle. Supposedly the auroras reach down this far at times, but haven't seen any of those yet.
