Have to agree with you on switching from asf's to rats. Never had any problems with that. I actually fed only asf's for a couple years then decided to switch back to rats because they get larger quicker. All of my adult ball pythons switched without a problem. Maybe I just have some aggressive eaters but they ate them just the same. After breeding rats again for a while my wife decided we were going back to asf's because the smell and they were easier to take care of. My wife is the one that takes care of the rats so I couldn't say much about it. Anyway all my snakes are back on asf's and not one hiccup in feeding.
I have several people buy snakes from me and switch them over to rats all the time without a problem. Granted there are a few balls that are picky eaters but for the most part there isn't any problem with switching them over to rats.
