Hello!
Either you have not registered on this site yet, or you are registered but have not logged in. In either case, you will not be able to use the full functionality of this site until you have registered, and then logged in after your registration has been approved.
Registration is FREE, so please register so you can participate instead of remaining a lurker....
Please note that the information requested during registration will be used to determine your legitimacy as a participant of this site. As such, any information you provide that is determined to be false, inaccurate, misleading, or highly suspicious will result in your registration being rejected. This is designed to try to discourage as much as possible those spammers and scammers that tend to plague sites of this nature, to the detriment of all the legitimate members trying to enjoy the features this site provides for them.
Of particular importance is the REQUIREMENT that you provide your REAL full name upon registering. Sorry, but this is not like other sites where anonymity is more the rule.
Also your TRUE location is important. If the location you enter in your profile field does not match the location of your registration IP address, then your registration will be rejected. As such, I strongly urge registrants to avoid using a VPN service to register, as they are often used by spammers and scammers, and as such will be blocked when discovered when auditing new registrations.
Sorry about all these hoops to jump through, but I am quite serious about blocking spammers and scammers at the gate on this site and am doing the very best that I can to that effect. Trust me, I would rather be doing more interesting things with my time, and wouldn't be making this effort if I didn't think it was worthwhile.

SOUND OFF!!! Ever have something REALLY bugging you and nowhere to vent about it? Well, this is the place. It does not have to be fauna oriented at all! Get it off your chest right here. |

You are correct! No one has to like it. Just like I dont have to like the way you have questioned the mans integrity over it, as well as implying that he is doing something bad or wrong.
Personally, I think you are the one doing something wrong. Just because you personally dont like something does not necessarily make it bad or wrong. Nor the person themselves.
You want to give people a heads up about the different prices, I have no problem with that. But you took it much further than that now didnt you.

I think this is all a matter of perspective and opinion. My impression of the reason for this thread was because the originator felt that the purpose behind the price difference was possibly some sort of intentional slight or attempted belitting of this site and/or it's members. Quite frankly, true or not, I agree that this IMPRESSION certainly is a valid concern, and the originator of this thread is as welcome to their opinion about such things as anyone else here is welcome to their own possibly contrary opinions.
There really isn't any reason for anyone to get all bent about such opinions, now is there?

Everything that I have done regarding this concern of mine has been expressed on this thread, on the now delted ad, and in one pm sent by request.
I don't want to unwittingly implicate myself in something that I no nothing of.

I belong to a couple of species-specific forums, and it's very common to offer the other members first shot at the animals we sell-at a reduced price-before offering them on other sites such as KingSnake, FaunaClassifieds, or even their own websites.
After a week or two, the animals go up for sale on the "other sites" at a higher price.
It's just the way some people do it.
I think that by offering the animals at a better price on the breed-specific forums, the seller is hoping that their animal will sell to someone with more knowledge of that species, and the animal stands a better chance at a good life, as opposed to selling at a more general site for the same price, where the animal may end up in the hands of somebody who has no clue about the care and keeping of the animal.
And by increasing the price on a general forum, there's the chance that only an experienced keeper will buy that animal, because they know that species and know what to look for in a good specimen as far as health, form and morph, and they know the worth of that animal.
Just my spin on the subject.

I appreciate your thought on it Donna. However, the two forums on which it was posted have the same basic layout in regard to species-specificity. Try saying species-specificity 10 times. Just try saying it once.

LOL-I think I was mis-understood. I think a lot of people would rather sell for a lower price to somebody they know, who has experience with that species, than to make more money by selling to some random person who may or may not know anything about the animal other than the fact that it may be a cool pet. These sellers actually care about the future of their animals and don't want to sell to novices who may harm them. Anyone can see an animal at an expo or on TV, google it, and be directed to a ton of sites that sell that kind of animal, and yet know nothing more than that they WANT that animal. I know that I make sure that the new owner knows how to care for the animals I sell. I ask questions and give care sheets, and even a starter sample of the food I give my animals. If I sell a high-end morph of crested gecko, I'd rather sell to someone I know from the forums I belong to, because I know that they care for their other animals the same way I do. I'll give them a great price break because I know my animal is going to a good home. You can't be sure of who you sell to on the bigger sites, and I think the price difference reflects that.

I guess you could measure size of forums based on differing criteria, and I don't really know how to go about gauging that. But, when I type in snake forum or ball python forum on google. Kingsnake (the site that it was listed on for cheaper) pops up way before faunaclassifieds. That makes me think that maybe fauna is smaller. I'm not sure though.
I'm with you though. I would always have a preference for selling to someone whose animal husbandry I felt comfortable with
