Hello!
Either you have not registered on this site yet, or you are registered but have not logged in. In either case, you will not be able to use the full functionality of this site until you have registered, and then logged in after your registration has been approved.
Registration is FREE, so please register so you can participate instead of remaining a lurker....
Please note that the information requested during registration will be used to determine your legitimacy as a participant of this site. As such, any information you provide that is determined to be false, inaccurate, misleading, or highly suspicious will result in your registration being rejected. This is designed to try to discourage as much as possible those spammers and scammers that tend to plague sites of this nature, to the detriment of all the legitimate members trying to enjoy the features this site provides for them.
Of particular importance is the REQUIREMENT that you provide your REAL full name upon registering. Sorry, but this is not like other sites where anonymity is more the rule.
Also your TRUE location is important. If the location you enter in your profile field does not match the location of your registration IP address, then your registration will be rejected. As such, I strongly urge registrants to avoid using a VPN service to register, as they are often used by spammers and scammers, and as such will be blocked when discovered when auditing new registrations.
Sorry about all these hoops to jump through, but I am quite serious about blocking spammers and scammers at the gate on this site and am doing the very best that I can to that effect. Trust me, I would rather be doing more interesting things with my time, and wouldn't be making this effort if I didn't think it was worthwhile.

This may be a bit long, please bear with me.
I picked up a Solomon Island ground boa at the Frederickburg VA show on the 11th. This is supposed to be a captive bred neonate/juvenile (I am assuming this year's litter) that is feeding every 3-4 weeks on house geckos. All of this is per the breeder from whom I purchased it. The snake appears very healthy, no sign of mites or other parasites. All in all it appears to be quite healthy. I have it set up in a 40 gallon breeder tank complete with hides and a live plant plus 2 seperate water dishes (one in each end of the tank). The ambient room temperature is 70-75 F with a warm spot in the tank reaching 85 F give or take a few degrees. The humidity is kept between 50-70% (usually between 60-70%).
As of the day I purchased him, I was told he was last fed a gecko approximately 3 weeks beforehand and should be ready to eat. I have put the gecko in the cage with him and left it over the weekend, I have tried putting both into a small rubbermaid container in the tank and leaving them overnight, neither option has resulted in the snake eatting the gecko. Are there any tricks that anyone knows of? I've not handled the snake to allow it to acclimate to it's new environment (with the exception of last Thursday night placing it and the gecko into a tub together). I would love to contact the breeder, but he didn't give me his number and I only know his first name (just cannot remember his last name). Any advice would be extremely helpful.
Thanks in advance,
Dianne 'Raven' Johnson

Just an update:
I tracked the vendor I purchased the boa from and found out that it is actually an import (let's here if for ALL Captive Bred reptile shows! lol) <img src="http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/confused.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='???'> Anyway, the snake was kept in a much smaller container than what I have him set up in. I've changed that and put two geckos in with him. I guess we'll see what happens from here.

these guys have a tendency to be shy feeders, as well as going on fasting periods. Your setup sounds good, but I would try only one gecko in with him at a time...he might get stressed with 2 in there. The solomons have a low metabolism, but he should still be eating. Trying a small anole or frog might also work.

I've ordered some live pinkies/fuzzies from the local shop to try scenting them and then offering them to the snake. They're due in next Tuesday. He's not losing any body weight, so I'm not overly concerned ... yet. I've also got access to some live frogs/froglets, so that will be the next option if he doesn't go for the mice. As soon as I can get an appointment and cash, I'll be getting him checked by my vet as well. I'll update ya'll as things progress.
Thanks,
Dianne
