Question Soaking

I was told by Doug Dix to soak the uros in warm water every couple of weeks, and to make sure that I dry them thoroughly.
I have read to soak them in gatorade or powerade to add electrolytes to them. Is this true? I would think the sugar would be bad for them.
Should I add natural salt to the water when I soak the uros, just like you would for tropical fish to add electrolytes?
Any information would be welcomed.

Osmosis?

The only way this would work would be if they absorbed the electrolytes through their skin, which isn't likely. Uro's are very well adapted to life in extreme desert conditions. They obtain/synthasize all their moisture from the food they eat. I soak my uro's every couple months unless otherwise needed. The only times I offer water to my uros are 1) newly arrived/acclimating specimens, 2) specimens who aren't eating or appear ill, 3) just out of brumation 4) females who have just laid. If you are worried about your uro getting enough hydration, try spraying their greens with extra water or take an eye dropper and put a drop of water on their lips. If they are thirsty, they will drink it up. And as far as electrolytes, if you see your uro with white crusty or powdery stuff on his nose, he is excreting excess salts, why put more in?

They even are able to use the moist that is in the "dry food" they eat, such as lentils, grains, etc.

spraying their food with water is a good option. But they get sufficient amounts of water from their food anyway. One food that is great for water content is Dandelion greens. The ones you get in a bunch from the grocerie store. The center stem part is full of water. Just break it up and feed it to them. They love it.
