Sorry about all these hoops to jump through, but I am quite serious about blocking spammers and scammers at the gate on this site and am doing the very best that I can to that effect. Trust me, I would rather be doing more interesting things with my time, and wouldn't be making this effort if I didn't think it was worthwhile.

Help Identify Snake?
Can someone please identify this snake for me?
I have my ideas, but want someone more knowledgable about snakes to answer.. and please, no flames cause its dead.

Did you find it that way or did you take the shovel to it? Its a hognose....southern I would guess, based on your location.

Looks like someone took a flat edged shovel to it's neck, with that straight line of damaged scales on the first left side dorsolateral blotch. What a cryin shame.

That "was" a nice looking hognose. I too, am curious if you are on the holding end of that shovel in the picture? Poor little guy.

It's either a Western or a Mexican hognose and either way, it's perfectly harmless. Unless you are a toad. They like to eat toads.

The IP localizes to Lufkin, Texas and there is no match to any other user.
