Thanks Casey. I appreciate your advice, and your conclusions make a lot of sense. I'm going to be fooling around with the new Herpstat (paid for and in transit) and the Helix to try to get to the bottom of the problem. I'll let you know how things turn out.

I know that this is an old thread but I am looking into getting an additional thermostat (for use on an incubator)and I have been looking at the helix dbs 1000

Any more comments on if this a good product or is it just a waste of money?

I obviously want something with a good temp control and that does not give me a large temp fluctuation

Also-is it easy to set up?

Thanks

Sandy

I have used up to twelve DBS-1000's for at least five years. I am completely satisfied with this product for my collection. I have thought about trying the expensive Herpstat 2's, because I think you can control several racks separately with different temperature settings using one thermostat, but I never got around to experimenting with one.

I have about 10 DBS100 stats and I have never had a problem.

Also, I have 3 of the Helix basic systems and they must be 7-8 years old and i have never had a problem with them either.

The only problems I have ever had is my fault do to probe placement or wiring malfunction in my flexa-watt. In addition, I have 2 Herpstats and they are just as reliable. However, I have had those cheapo reo-stats fail on me a number of times in the past. Beware of those as I have had them "stick" open.
