Hi, There's probably more answers than I have for this question, but I'll give you my opinion on this one....
I'd say, depending on what you're looking for as far as age, sex, and colors will play a big role in the price. Just like most animals/herps/etc... the more unusual the colors, the higher the price. After these high dollar colors get into the market more will take over.
Another thing is the care and time into breeding dragons. I know for a fact they're expensive to keep and breed, since we have close to 50 adults and juveniles! To raise the babies up to a safe size to ship and sell, think about food (thousands of crickets, lbs. and lbs. of greens and veggies), UV lights, heat lights, fixtures, housing, and the list geos on. To keep them healthy and growing, you've got to seperate them, feed them well ( babies/juvies/3 times a day!<img src="http://www.faunaclassifieds.com/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/wink.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt='
'>, keep their housing cleaned, monitor them, give them baths and swim time, the list goes on. They're not like geckos, snakes, and alot of other reptiles and such that you can put into rack systems with some heat tape and some water and call it a job.
I could go on and on, but what I stated should give you an idea of why they are so much. Keep in mind you can get young dragons that are considered "normals" at a decent price most of the time.
