Police: Pittsburgh student used snake as jump rope

PITTSBURGH – Pittsburgh police say a high school student is facing charges for using a biology class snake as a jump rope.

Police say the incident happened Monday at Taylor Allderdice (ahl-DER'-dys) High School.

Police aren't identifying the 17-year-old suspect because he's being charged in juvenile court. The boy will be charged with theft and cruelty to animals.

The animal survived the ordeal and was being examined by a veterinarian.

Pittsburgh Public School officials on Tuesday were not immediately able to say what kind of snake it was.

Screw that! He needs to be charged as an adult for this kind of crime!

Im from pittsburgh and when i seen the news i was out raged. i was so pissed i wanted to find this kid and play jump rope with his ass. i have a few friends that work in the court house and they are going to let me know his court date so i can be there. i want to hear the out come and you better beleave they are going to hear my mouth about it. i will post everything when the time comes.

oh yea it was a 4ft albino corn snake. the pics on the news the snake looked dead.

Turns out he didn't use i as a jump rope but still hope he get charged for what he did do.

Pittsburgh schools: Snake wasn't used as jump rope

PITTSBURGH — A spokeswoman for Pittsburgh Public Schools says a high school student swung around a snake from a biology class, but didn't use it as a jump rope as police had said.


Schools spokeswoman Ebony Pugh said Wednesday, "It's not a big enough snake to jump rope with."

She also says the albino corn snake is OK and didn't need to be treated by a veterinarian after Monday's incident.

Police say the 17-year-old Taylor Allderdice High School student will be charged with theft and cruelty to animals.
