Please be extremely careful in your driving and car registration & insurance matters. State of California is broke and they are trying hard to squeeze all of us hard to collect money.

Effective immediately, if you do not stop at the red light, be ready to pay $436 in fines or if you pass a school bus with flashing red signals, you will be charged $616. The state of California is going for blood, so be extra careful in driving, You cannot afford messing with them. I have been hearing that Highway Patrols are under pressure to issue a lot more tickets than last year with at least 30% increase in fines over 2009, so beware of radar guns, highway and traffic cameras installed everywhere and the tougher enforcement of parking rules.

Just for your info, the next time you park in the handicapped zone, even for a minute, you will be looking at almost $ 1000 in parking tickets , so it'd better be worth it.

Holy hell. I used to drive a truck... and on one occasion I made an honest mistake and was off by 15 mins on my log. Im glad I dont drive truck anymore.

I'm all for this. Too many people drive like idiots as it is... we are driving LETHAL WEAPONS, and most of the time, the penalties are not nearly enough to deter people from driving irresponsibly. I have several friends who justify speeding by saying that "the cumulative time saved is well worth the ticket costs" ... THAT is when you know a penalty is ineffective.

If you pass a school bus with its flashers on, you deserve a sixty thousand dollar fine as far as I'm concerned. Blatantly blow a red light? Go to jail as far as I'm concerned, I don't care if you ever get to drive again. I wish Illinois would do some of this, I witness all these violations and more on a daily basis, it's sort of expected that you have to drive like a moron to "survive" in the Chicago metro area...

I would agree with the cost of fine if the majority of the money collected was to go to a good cause like the Salvation Army.

I see nothing wrong with that policy/increased fines either.

I think most people would be in favor of this if they didn't know deep in their hearts that this will be abused. Anytime you have money involved there will be abuse. Once the methodology changed whereby government stopped treating fines as a method of giving incentive to obey the law to a lucrative method of revenue collection, then abuse is not only running rampant, but is actively encouraged by local policies of the enforcing agencies.

It's a quite simple chain of events, really. The more money government makes off of fines, the more they will raise those fines as well as come up with more and more things to apply the fines for. Try to tell me that this isn't EXACTLY what is taking place right now. All levels of government are hurting for money. THIS is an easy method for them to try to drum up more money, and they certainly are doing just that. They don't give a damn about public safety except for the feel good lip service they publicize. It has really become all about the money. Period. It's just that this is an easy sell by telling everyone that it is for our own safety and welfare. Which just sounds great until YOU are the one who gets a $214 ticket for driving 56 mph in a 55 mph zone (which would most likely be well within the tolerance of error in both the speedometer of your car, the speed detection device, the calibration device, or all of the above) because there is now a stronger financial incentive for law enforcement officers to cite you for tickets.

There is no body on this earth who is going to be able to convince me that law enforcement officers are not reviewed for promotions or even job retention without their "productivity" being taken into account. So how is "productivity" calculated? That certainly shouldn't take a rocket scientist to figure out...

There WILL be unintended consequences from this. The higher the fines involved, the more incentive there is for someone to RUN rather than pull over to take the ticket. That's when things start to get deadly. High speed chases normally always result in property damage or bodily injuries. So what's the $$ value for those kinds of results?
