Probably only when someone tries to buy a gun from a dealer and they find out that NICS has conveniently been shut down......

It will be interesting to note which services are cherry picked to be shut down.

Then they should have gotten their CCW before now. That's probably the best perk of having one, cash and carry gun purchases.

As far as the shutdown itself, I'm all for it. I remember the shutdown in '95. Well, I remember it happening, but I don't remember it specifically, because there was nothing to remember.
Since critical services are exempted from a shutdown, even the mail still gets delivered.
Pretty much all that happens is the multitude of bureaucrats whose job it is to make our lives miserable with their endless regulations and sticking their noses into our business, will get sent home. It's win/win from where I'm sitting.
Just a couple of nice things to enjoy for a few days:
The EPA workforce will decrease by about 94%. A break from their jack booted over zealous persecution of individuals and business across the board.
The IRS will stop processing tax returns and cancel audit appointments.
I think an inability to visit a national park is a fair trade off for just those two bonuses.

The FDA will see half to 3/4 of it's workforce sent home depending on which report you are reading. Either way, whole milk and real cheese for everyone!

Of course the TSA is exempt, the public molestation of our children and elderly by the government must continue unabated.

Worth it just for that.

Aren't they anticipating the stock market to crash if this lapses the debt ceiling deadline in two weeks? Kinda a big deal LOL.

Also, the shutdown will be paid for by taxpayers. The 95/6 shutdown racked up $1.4 billion in additional taxes. Most likely, Government Employees will receive back-pay for hours where no work got done and then overtime to catch up.

From my email yesterday:

Thanks and have a good day,

OTOH processing times on F1's and F4's probably just got pushed out to more than a year...

Maybe this would be a real good time for everyone to REALLY look at what is absolutely ESSENTIAL from the federal government, and then stick with it permanently. Yeah, I know people will be out of work, but why should the federal government be immune from the same belt tightening that private businesses have to go through when things get tough for them? They can't just strong arm their customers for more money like the feds can do through increased taxes and fees. So there is absolutely no way to trim the fat in federal government when it becomes dead obvious that it is necessary. And with them running a $16 trillion debt limit and looking to increase that (AGAIN!), I would say it's pretty darn obvious that fat trimming IS needed there.

Yep, I was right, if you're in the process of getting a machine gun, suppressor, or other Title II firearm transferred, your wait time just got a lot longer. NFA is running with two examiners and four contractors for the time being.

This just won't happen right now, should the shut down last that long, which I doubt, they'll pass a stop gap to raise the ceiling to continue paying for critical services and prevent default while they continue to argue about the budget.
There has been, 17 government shutdowns since 1977. We're still here and the world hasn't ended, it's not going to this time.

The federal government employs around 2.7 million civilians. If they shut down everything that they do which they do not have a constitutionally granted power to do it would become a mere fraction of that total.
If at the same time they withdrew their incessant interference in private business, and stopped actively discouraging domestic production by means of high corporate taxes, incentive to foreign companies, and endless regulatory hoops to even operate, then the number of available jobs would more than make up for the jobs lost by trimming the bloated government.

Then problem is they crave power and control, and the more they get the more they want, and once gotten they will fiercely hold on to it.
The American people have sat idly by for over a hundred years and allowed them to usurp power and authority they were not granted by our constitution.

Before the so called "progressives" started infecting the system with their poison, many bills that today would be embraced were vetoed out of hand by past presidents.
Our federal government was not intended to be a caretaker of the people, but rather a protector, but by being such they assume complete power over them so that position was orchestrated through all manner of government aid and subsidies.

This shutdown is solely over Obamacare, which to me is a worthwhile reason to stand your ground. Even though I fully expect the GOP to cave before it's over, I also believe that Obamacare has the real potential to be the single most devastating piece of legislation in the nation's history. It's already resulted in tremendous damage to the nation's working class and it isn't even fully implemented yet.

I think passport services are stopped as well. I'm rather sad about the parks being closed.
