Dolphin seeks out help from diver

In an incredible video, an imperiled dolphin seeks the help of a diver to become untangled from a fishing line. It seems to understand the diver's signals.

Cool video.

How do we explain the dolphin's understanding that a human could help without anthropomorphizing? Former captive?

Yeah, that is pretty neat. I would have been blown away to have a wild animal trust me that much.

Fantastic, thanks so much for posting. The dolphin may have been around a lot of humans if he hangs around divers in Hawai'i, but it's very obvious he knew exactly what he was doing.

I've had turtles who lived on regular dive sites come up to divers to have barnacles cleaned off their shells.

it really is amazing. There's a video out there with a wild elephant that is freaking out but calms down enough to let the rangers help it out of the pond/mud it got stuck in. As if it knew the humans were trying to assist it.

I've seen interesting inter-species play, I wonder if it extends to helping each other as well? things that make you go hmmmm
