Food grade Diatomaceous Earth

I've heard of people using this for treating mammals (humans included) for internal and external parasites, as well as a way to kill of bug infestations in and around the home. I'm going to purchasing some for myself because of some spider and ant issues I'm having.

I'm wondering if this could also be used as a 'dewormer' or mite preventative/treatment for reptiles? Has anyone tried it? Currently I am not having any issues but would love to know if I could ad this to my 'Reptile First Aid Kit' for any issues, or to use as a preventative for new reptile purchases. It seems safe enough, especially considering it is chemical free, and all natural. I prefer not to use poisons/insecticides for several obvious reasons.

Here's a good site about it: http://wolfcreekranch1.tripod.com/defaq.html

Thanks!

I haven't had a use for it myself, but I know several people that swear buy it for mites.

My friend uses it as a dog dewormer and loves it.

Thanks! Do you think it would be detrimental to geckos though?

i use it for ants and have used it on my rats and my dogs. have not yet used it on any of my reptiles, but there have been no adverse side effects for my other animals. from what ive seen though, im sure it would work on mites

maybe you could call around to some vets? i'm sure you could find some reptile vets online that you might be able to email. i'm interested to know if you could as well.

we just got some of this stuff at work, and after treating the backyard with it and adding it to the animal's food, i took my dog to work, gave her a bath, and then dusted her with the stuff. it was actually fun, and hilarious since every time i pat her on the back a little cloud puffs up. i plan on sending some to my mom for our ferrets.

I've been meaning to call a vet but haven't yet. I have recently learned of it having silica in it though.

Its pretty much all silica isn't it? We're still learning about it so we can properly educate our customers; I should have paid more attention during oceanography haha
