Agreed, it's an Eastern.

It probably will do best if it is released near where it was found.

thanks for the responses. We found him in our basement. not sure if we might have alot more down there. Afraid to go look--but the husband did. should we have more to find and what to do with them. thanks

actually it looks alot like a southern, so if it is a southern i would definitley let it go....

I don't think there are any Southern Hognoses in New Jersey.

Its a baby Eastern.....they mainly eat toads so they generally don;t do well in captivity. Releasing it would be best for both you & the snake.

thank you for the id's. We have released him back in the wild by a waterway so he should get plenty of frogs. thanks again!

Oh....didn't know it was from new jersey...lol...wasnt paying attention, but it does look like a southern somewhat...
