Need advice: Rescued 2 Beardies, now have 2 clutches of eggs to deal with!
My wife and I rescued 2 beardies about 6 months ago. We were told that Walter & Opal had been living together copasetically for as long as the previous owners had them (1-2 years). I'm working on a custom cage where they'll be separated, but figured they'd be okay together in the meantime...
...my mistake.
I noticed that Opal was gravid when her belly started to bulge, and she laid her first clutch of 23 eggs on January 10th. I frantically ran to the local Tractor Supply Co. and grabbed an incubator (off-brand Hovabator) and setup the little guys in there -- I just didn't have the heart to *gulp* freeze them. I called the previous owners to share the news and found out that Opal had laid at least 1 clutch before (possibly 2, they weren't very forthcoming with the data). So now fast forward about 55 days, and Opal lays another clutch of 20. Now I'm really freakin' out...
I figured I could hatch the 1st clutch, keep a couple to raise, and adopt the others out. I'd like to try to sell them myself, not for profit, but just because I'd like to meet the new owners -- I think of these little guys like my babies now! I'm torn about how to do it though. I don't want to go out "marketing" them, because I'm not out to make money. Besides, as far as I know their parents are just "normal" color phase dragons (although I'd swear the Dad has some Citrus in him somewhere). By the same token, I'd like to make enough to cover the costs of raising the little fellas to 6+ weeks. How can I go about finding them good homes without coming across as some kind of lizard-mill jerk?
I can't be the first guy to go through this(?). Any advice would be very much appreciated.
