Hey, congrats on finding the gravid girl, that is very good news.

An idea for a box would be to cut a hole big enough for the snake, a flap used on the inside of the box so there is only one direction for the flap to move, swinging inward would be best. To connect the flap to the box, a piece of duct tape across the top of the flap should be sufficient, using a piece of heavy rubber might work as a flap. With a rodent inside the smell should be able too bring the hungry snake out to investigate the smell. Even scenting a rodent path on the ground to the box would be a good idea.

I found mine also

but it was only 50% successful.. One i found yesterday, outside and my dog was barking at it. Don't know how it survived the 110 degree weather we have had!! The other made it to my Rat building, and crawled up to the second level, and got its head stuck in the wire top of the racks, and the rats ate her in half.. I guess she laid her eggs somewhere before this, because you could tell she didn't have any in her.. I will have to find where she got out of my snake building now, so this does not happen again Later Mike

A couple of ideas for you:

As far as an actual snake trap- PVC pipe works as well as anything. Get a piece at least a foot or two longer then the snake and barely larger in diameter. Place this along a wall as snakes will usually travel there. The idea is that the snake will investigate the enticing-looking tunnel and enter. Because the pipe is barely larger then the snake, he will not be able to turn around inside and will also have difficulty backing out. Of course you want to be sure to put a cap on one end.

Another thing to consider are the basic needs of the snake. Although hunger will lure him, he has a much greater need for water. A couple well-placed sweater boxes filled half way with water and an opening cut in the top will serve two purposes. You may be lucky enough to catch him soaking in there, but at the very least, you can prevent him from suffering from dehydration.

Once his need for water is satisfied, his second strongest drive is for safety and concealment. He has obviously already found at least one spot that is working, but if you can convince him to give it up for one of your choosing, you may be able to catch him there.

Again, stay near the walls of the room and avoid the high traffic areas - he is.
Place some carpet remnants, towels, or something similar along the walls. Snakes will be naturally drawn to these types of cover.

As far as his existing hiding place, if there are appliances in the basement, such as a washer and dryer, these will be prime places to search. Remember, he is looking for warmth and concealment.

Just try to think like a snake and you will very likely find him.

Good luck.
