Digestible Calcium sand

Does any one have experience with sand that is digestible and what is your opinion. Am preparing for a sand boa and just curious about this product. I killed a frog my first month into keeping creatures due to constipation. learned a valuable lesson at the expense of a cool green tree frog. Poor JUMP

It is not recommended to keep reptiles on a calcium based substrate because it can encourage them to ingest it more then they would a non-calcium based substrate. A lot will recommend not keeping reptiles on loose substrate at all to prevent all chances of impaction.

Something you need to keep in mind that manufacturers will say anything to make a sale. Manufacturers have an entire marketing department whose only job is to sell there products. If you do a Google search on impaction related to calcium sand, you will find many cases where reptiles have gotten impacted from the products; either requiring surgery or died.

Well really, what species are you talking about? That would help be able to answer you on what would be best.

I don't recall the exact brand name but I've read on more than one occasion and from more than one source that calcium sand has a tendency to clump in the stomach, causing severe impaction. I wouldn't use it. In fact, I use children's play sand for my beardies, but I can't suggest it for sand boas because I'm not familiar with them.

Have a good one!
