Sheffield MA Responds to Timber Rattlesnake Bite 22 Y/O Male

Well just about Fifteen minutes ago a call went through the scanner for a male of 22 years of age, just bitten while hiking down a mountain by a Timber Rattlesnake.

A light tourniquet was advised to be applied while the bite victim is transported to Bay state Medical Hospital for Treatment. It was reported that the hiker was walking down with emergency responders to wait for the ambulance.

Hopefully this guy didnt get too serious a bite. And HOPEFULLY they wont/did not kill the snake. ( I did call in to let the responders know to NOT kill the animal, if possible, because they are not in high numbers around the area. )

What a way to start the Fourth of July huh? I Feel bad that its going to take him awhile to get to Bay State.

What a shame.
It sounds like it was a completely innocuous bite.
If I remember correctly, the Timber rattler has one of the most potent bites of the different Rattlesnake species.
Best of luck to him.

Turns out they were doing research on the animals/microchipping/tracking which, working so closely with the animals... is probably why this guy was bit. So i feel much better at the fact that the snake was probably A OK

Now i hope the guy ends up alright!!!! Ill keep this thread updated with any information I get.

I didn't even see it on the news. I guess I was out of it. At least he went to Baystate. They have everything there. Do you know how he made out?

I didnt hear about this either. I've been hiking rattlesnake hill and the surrounding area for the last 2 weeks and the most I've found was black racers, Big Garters and 1 Agkistrodon contortrix(copperhead).

Hope that guys alright. and I really hope they didnt kill the C. horridus.

Nah, they didnt, i just called to make sure they wouldnt... Since the FD knows who i am and also knows that i like these animals.

The guy is recovering, though the age is not 100% * Ill have to ask to get better info* When i wrote this, it had just run through on the scanner, and that information is usually not 100% until confirmed by officials

Local paper here made up quite a few facts... about the incident, basically making the animals look bad, which irked me. Dont print a story unless you have some pretty good information. They made up quite a bit...
