RED GOBLINS! - Alternative to Red Runner Feeders

We are very pleased to be offering these non-burrowing, non-flying, non-invasive feeder roaches which come from our cousins down under in Australia.

Paratemnopteryx couloniana....aka...the "Red Goblin" roach, is an excellent feeder for those critters that like to "ambush" their food. Their robust behavior includes scampering around the ground grabbing the attention of those terrestrial animals, along with a short jump action similar to a cricket which is guaranteed to get a feeding response.

The fact that they don't burrow, hide, or play dead makes them a perfect staple food for Tarantulas, Amphibians, and other animals that like to lay low and out of sight. And due to their rapid reproduction rate a colony offers a wide assortment of sizes fit for slings or full grown adults. We keep them on an inch or two of substrate where they can lay their "egg pods", (ootheca) along with vertical eggflats for the nymphs to climb around on. Basic food offerings include roach chow and water gel, "beetle" jelly cups, and cut up bits of carrot, dried fruit, and fish pellets. A short weekly mist to keep the substrate slightly moist which helps keep the oothecae from drying out.

Speaking of adults....although they can't fly the adult males and females are differentiated by the length of their wings. Similar to Dubia the females have short stubby wings while the males are longer. Another nice feature is the newly hatched 1st instar nymphs quickly grow into a subadult size of just under 1", and then they just fatten up for several weeks before molting into adults. So you don't have to wait a long time for your feeders to provide a healthy meal....and you'll have plenty of time to feed them all off.

Nymphs can not climb smooth surfaces, but full grown adults can. This makes them an excellent feeder for arboreal animals like Chameleons...the "Goblin" is going to scurry about your plants, branches, and screens which will stimulate your critter to prey upon his next meal. And again, by not burrowing into the substrate you can rest assured your "sky walker" is getting to eat all the food you are offering.

Lastly, if you are looking to start your own colony and/or are wondering about care....my suggestion is to try some on for size yourself. We have been maintaining 3 dozen roach species on and off for the last 12 years....and in the last 10 years the Turkistan roach...aka...Shelfordella lateralis...aka "Red Runner" roach isn't one of them.

Our first and only foray into keeping the invasive Red Runner led us to give a rather large colony away and ban them from our roach kingdom forever. Their high maintenance needs in order to ward off their smell, their amazing ability to get out of their bin even though they supposedly can't climb, and the difficulty in trying to catch those schizophrenic little bastards left us saying never again. Which is why we love our Red Goblins sooooo much.....don't get me wrong...you are going to earn your "Roach Wrangler" merit badge with these guys. But, if you be cool when handling their colony, they'll be cool too! And if things get a little excited and a few wind up on the floor...they are MUCH easier to catch then the invasive red headed stepchild of the roach family.

We are offering these Red Goblins as a "mixed" group here and on our website....no tiny babies will ever be included in the count, although a few will wind up in your purchase, they aren't included in your count.

100 "mixed" wingless nymphs approximately 3/8" on up to 3/4" with some a bit larger at 1" 36.00 shipped

250 "mixed" wingless nymphs approximately 3/8" on up to 3/4" with some a bit larger at 1" 66.00 shipped.

Any interested parties can contact us here on Fauna, or via the contact us form on our website's home page. You can text me directly also.....thank you for considering Royal Roaches for your next bug purchase!
