Hornworm Question

Can hornworms eat Silkworm Chow and grow on it? I have 10 lbs of silkworm chow and want to grow so hornworms so I was hoping it would work for both.
Thanks
Ryan

I know this is old, but yes, it will work. The two things are basically the same, the only difference is the chemical in Silkworm chow that makes it seem like mulberry leaves to silkworms, which is completely harmless.

Strange, it killed the 50 I experimented with.

Odd that it killed them...All the chow is, is powdered mulberry leaves, with agar and maybe vitamins added.
http://www.mulberryfarms.com/Packaged-Foods-c27/ < It says it can feed hornworms too.

Maybe the food was unsterile or something?

so is it ground mulberry leaves or something else? Your information seems contradicting.

Have you actually tried it yourself?

What part is contradicting? I remember reading somewhere that the owner of Mulberry farms gets powdered mulberry leaves, so I assumed that was what the chow was made of. It'd make sense, since hornworms will eat fresh mulberry leaves, according to some people (Yes I know I should specify; I'm trying to find it again.)

Here is where Ryan says they're eating mulberry leaves http://www.chameleonforums.com/hornw...ng-tips-16729/

Since silkworms only eat mulberry, I thought that the chow is probably derived from mulberry leaves somehow, and then I saw he gets powdered mulberry leave shipments (I jjust can't remember where I saw that at...

And while I'm at it..http://www.chameleonforums.com/recip...95/index2.html
ColorCham427 says hornworm is wheatgerm based.

so you are giving second hand advice about something you have never tried or experienced first hand?
