Thumbs up Lobster roaches.

Lobster roaches. Nauphoeta cinerea.
These roaches are non-flying glass-climbers and reach adult lengths of about 1.25". They do climb glass, so they'd be perfect for your arboreal pets. Soft-bodied makes for easy digestability for your herps. These work very well for small tarantulas, too. Fast breeding and low maintenance! Plus, they don't stink like crickets do.

Hello,

i've been interested in starting a colony of roaches for a while. How many would you reccommend to get started?

Hi Brandon,
I recommend starting with 100 roaches. If you don't feed too heavily out of the colony, provide a warm side of 90-95 degrees, and keep them well fed with vegetables and kitten chow, you'll have a self-sustaining colony within a couple of months. If you want it to happen sooner than that or you don't mind waiting, 200 or 50 will suffice. IMO, lobsters reproduce so quickly that it's not necessary to ever purchase more than 200 to establish a colony. Thanks for your reply. Let me know if you have any more questions.
