I think SHE is a HE ~ what do you think?

I got in 5 snakes on 4-26-03. Suuposedly 1.3 babies, and 0.1 sub adult. Well, I weighed and probed them all on 4-26, when *she* arrived *she* weighed 752 grams, and probed 4 subcaudaul on the right, 6 subcaudaul scales on the left. A little deep for a female buy not unreasonable.

I just happened to weigh her 9 days later on 5-5 and she had gained 230 grams to 982 grams.

Well, I just wieghed and probed *her* again now. *She* now weighs 1055 grams (Yes, I checked the tare)......so *she* must have been pretty dehydrated on 4-26 to make a 300 gram difference between now and then.

When I probed *her* today I came up with 7 subcaudaul both sides (Approx scale count, harder to count now....she wiggles a lot!) AND the probe had white "Goop" on it on BOTH sides. Am I correct in beleiving this white "Goop" could only be sperm plugs and *SHE* is a HE?

BTW~ I am considering taking all 5 to a local shop tomarrow for verification.....as I also probed the 1.3 babies.....and I suspect what I actually have here is 5.0 males.

Hi Cheryl, Have you tried popping her? Usually when you pop sub-adults: The girls evert there musk glands which are smaller than Hemipenes and have no blood vessel visible. They evert pretty easily. The Boys are very difficult to evert, you will be able to see the base of the hemipenes and as you gently press on the tail side you may see a cork screw shaped thing. That is the sperm plug. It's very difficult to explain in writing.LOL If you pull out the plug usually some sperm comes out.
I've seen some of my girls secrete some white along with some brownish liquid from their musk glands but with the boys its always whitish(is that a word?)
If you have a Def subadult or adult male try popping him and then compare what they look like. Or a Def Female.
I know its tough at first but after you get used to what the different organs look like it gets easier.
I have a tough time with hatchlings because my eyes are getting bad cause I'm getting old.LOL
Well I hope this helps. Feel free to email me w/ any questions, If you want I could send you my ph# it would probably easier to explain on the phone.
Later, Rob
