Red face what is a good ground covering plant?

I have a very small patch of "lawn" in a wet shady area. It is also on a hill. No matter what I try, grass won't grow. What is a good ground covering plant that doesn't attract too many bugs (the hill is by the grill and patio set)?

I do like ivy but it seems to attract gnats. Is there an evergreen that creeps like ivy does?

There are some low growing Junipers. They stay low but branch out quite a bit, re-root and spread.

A good one is Ophiopogan "Kyoto Dwarf" or common name is Dwf Mondo Grass, but I think you are too cold for it. Do not think it likes much below zone 8 How about Pacysandra or Vinca minor. Ajuga I think would be hardy also as well as some hostas. All of these should be readily available in your area if they will grow there. Guessing you are zone 6 maybe colder. I have a nursery in South Florida zone 10 but miss some of the temperate stuff...Japanese Maples, bearded Iris,
