Anyone Using Ground English Walnut Shells for Substrate 4 Snakes?

Anyone using Walnut Shells for substrate for snakes?

I have found some really good pricing on Walnut Shells (crushed) and wanting to know if there is anyone here with experience using it as substrate? Before I buy it.

Would not feed on them, just using it as bedding.

Any experiences would be greatly appreciated!

I use it for my sand boas and have had no problem. I agree that not feeding them in it works best, it get in their mouths pretty easy. Good luck!

It really depends on what you are using it for. It would be fine for sand boas.

I used to use it many years ago and found it to be just mediocre. It has a tendency to be dusty, small bits can get in the nostrils and it is not absorbent.
I use sani-chips for my larger snakes (womas and blackheads) and my Antaresia; cypress mulch for my ringed pythons (for humidity & burrowing) and paper towels for my balls and Sanzinias. Sani-chips and paper towels seem to be the easiest as far as keeping the cage clean plus they absorb some of the moisture in the poop and urates.
