Feeding??!!

What does everyone feed their Leos?
I currently feed super mealworms to all my leos, but I heard that waxworms will put some weight on them quick. I never see any 4 sale though. Where can I find some?

My advice is to just stick with the supers and or mealies. If you are gutloading them well, your geckos will fatten up just fine. You should just stay away from the waxies though. I call them gecko crack. When I first started to get into geckos I wanted them to have a varied diet and made the mistake of feeding them a few waxies. I had one girl that refused all other prey items after that. It took 3 months( at the Betty Ford Clinic) of trying to hand feed her mealies before she came around. I had to smash up some waxies and coat the mealies in the guts to fool her. It was a long process and I will Never use waxies again. I use mealworm in a dish 24/7 and crickets about 3 times aweek for adults. Hatchlings get mealies and crickets everyday.

Meal worms, crickets, ornage head roaches

I feed my leos and AFTs mealworms, superworms, lobster roaches, orange head roaches, and soon discoid roaches. Before too long roaches will be the only food item offered.

I feed crickets which all of my gecko's love. Two of my gecko's eat mealwoms but I don't think that they enjoy them that much, and occasionally waxworms, but my baby won't eat mealworms or waxworms just crickets. When I put any kind of worm in with the baby he seems to be scared of it... once I tried to feed him a waxworm because I want him to gain some weight and in about an hour I checked to see if he ate it and he was cuddled up with the waxworm in his hide... it was so funny! I haven't fed anything else, but I think I'm going to try and feed my adult a pinkie very soon.

I agree with Jeremy. If he's not in dire need of weight gain (i.e., pregnant, malnourished, etc.) then just fatten him up with nutritious food. It'll be more helpful in the long run for a growing leo.

I'm so headed towards the roach diet as well. lol I currently feed lobster roaches, mealworms, superworms, and occasionally crickets and waxworms. I'm waiting for my orange spotted colony to grow, and then I've got some shipments of discoids and orange heads coming in next week. It's rather disgusting. I still squeal when I have one squirming around in my hand or even worse, crawling on me. :alien:

This all some great advice. Cody I may be getting with you on some roaches. For some reason my leos have NEVER been interested in crickets. I bought 1,000 and everyone went in the trash.
I heard that wax worms are good for a female after breeding season, since they tend to put on alot of weight. What do you think?

When you’re ready Greg just contact me. I’ve noticed that a picky eater will eat roaches like their candy. I don’t know the nutritional break down on roaches but all my roach eaters are very large. I have several males well over 100g and my amelanistic fat-tail male is 130g and their all feeding on roaches. Most of my roach feeding females are large as well hovering around 80g. Roaches rule!!! LOL.

i will only feed waxies occasionally durring breeding season but once it starts getting hot its too much a risk for them to be shipped. i currently feed super worms,mealworms , crickets i have some orange heads and discoid colonies staring and right now im only feeding a one or two of my picky feeders those... i cant afford to feed themall roaches yet not until my colonies grows

I feel weird for asking, but what are discoids? Are the roaches and discoids easy to breed?
