Take it to a vet for x-rays to see what is going on. I have heard of snakes being injured in shipping and recovering, but they need a lot of TLC and supportive care.

I’d have a hard time believing injuries like that were not present prior to shipping

Depends. Might have been interesting and illuminating to see pics of the box if was received in.
