The NY Gecko
off the feed

last 2 winters hes done this to me. my male refuses to eat around this time regardless of his environment remaining a constant.is this normal? he doesnt lose maybe mroe than 10g doin this but its really begining to tick me off. anyone else having these problems?

Ya i feel ya one of my males does that ive tryed everthing from new cage to out into another room away from the smell of females nothing!!!!I hate it.Any fixes for this problem???

maybe he just hibernating........maybe daylight changes less daylight? Just a theory. He lives through the winters so.........I guess you can save your money on him for the winter

Well I heard that geckos can store fat so they can actually go quite a while without feeding so it isn't necessarily bad for them. In the wild I think they have a hibernation time where they go with periods of time without food

Good thought but to bad the time he decides to stop eating is breeding season

Mine too, half of my geckos already slowed down on eating this time of the year. Some of them will eat close to nothing for almost 3 months and lose about 10g. I used to get really worried about this, but when Feb comes, they'll just eat like normal again and will gain back the 10g very quickly. So, this year, I think I'll just turn their temp down a little, and let them have the winter rest.
