Feeding issues with Mexican Hognoses

I just got two pairs of pure Mexican hognose babies from Mike Russo. Each is around 11grams and all are very active. The problem starts when it comes to the food. They all start to be very defensive (way more than any westerns) refusing thawed pinkies. I was told by Mike to use a toad for scenting but some sources say that Mexicans do not eat toads feeding mostly on lizards? Does anybody have any proved experience with starting Mexican Hogs on thawed pinkies?

Any help is appreciated!

You can try using water from a can of tuna.

In my experience, toads and tuna tend to be the best way to go. If senting f/t does not work, try senting live to see if they even take that. Also check your temps and make sure you have suffient hides for them as well.

Hi,
I got a group of Kennerly from Mike also and at first I had the same thing happen to me.

I got one to eat on toad scent and by toad scent I mean cut open the toad and really rub the pink in there, if that doesn't work try cutting a leg of the toad and presenting that to the hog, if you notice interest and it's going after the leg, take it out and present it with the scented pink, if there is still no interest then cut a piece of the toad's skin and put it on the pink's head, do that for about 10/15 min at the time.

Also try the same thing using an anole or house gecko (One of mine eats that way) and always move the pink around as to peek the snake's interest.

Kennerly's get very stressed out so if you notice that stop and try again in 15 min.

Hope that helps you, these are awesome snakes

Sorry to hear they didn't take the tuna scented pinks.
Just some other thoughts:
Make a powder with the shed skin or urates of a lizard.
Water from a can of Vienna sausages.
Egg yolk
split brain pinks
