Dart frog question

I have two green and black dart frogs, and yesterday when I was cleaning their tank, one of the frogs stretched out his legs and "played dead" I was lifeless until I touched its feet, and then it hopped away. Do they play dead? Also they have very fat bellies...is that normal for a dart. Before my dwarf african water frog died his belly got really bloated before he "croaked". Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I had green and black auratuses for a couple years and never experienced them "playing dead". If no one can answer this question in this forum, I would post this on www.frognet.org. It is a great resource for dart frog owners and there are tons of really nice and experienced froggers more than happy to answer questions.

Hope this helps.

talk to a vet

One of the most knowledgable vets for poison dart frogs is David Fry he can tell you what it may be. http://www.fryebrothersfrogs.com . Good luck

Your frog might have been shedding. I have seen some of my tree frogs contort themselves trying to get rid of their old skin.lol i have never noticed this with my auratus though. hope your frogs will be ok.

Playing dead is normal when the frog is stressed. I had some red galacs that would exhibit this behavior at times.

Nothing to worry about.
