Question Boa Genome

Does anyone no if the boa genome has ever been mapped? I feel that if it has been mapped that we could more accuratly catergorize sp. from ssp and a lot of the debate on this fourm could be proved and disproved, such as the one thread i saw concerning the actual number of boa sp. Anyway, just i thought.

No, only a handful of species have full genome maps, due to the cost and time it takes - the species mapped are usually either particularly important experimental models (fruit flies, mice, zebrafish) or of particular taxonomic importance (chimps, lungfish, hagfish, opposum).

However, you don't need the whole genome to determine sub-specific status - a few highly-conserved genes such as the cytochrome oxidases or ribosomal subunits will work, if you can get just those sequences. Of course, the more genes, the more robust your conclusions will be.
