Fattening up my gecko

Hey guys I have a quick question about fattening up my male and my female leopard gecko. How many waxworms should I give them and how often. Also how many Pinkys should I give them and how often?
Thanks!!!

Unless they are having health issues due to weight loss, you shouldn't fatten them up. If you are trying to get them to a healthy breeding weight, use crickets or roaches dusted with vitamins/calcium. Waxworms are solid fat. Think of them like potato chips. They will keep the animal alive and fat, for a while. But it would be the equivalent of fattening a child up on potato chips.

Great avice from Noelle , but i would consider them Twinkies rather than chips.Dubias & crikets properly gutloaded and dusted should be good enough to keep your geckos healthy without making them lethargic & uncooperative with good eating habits.Overfeeding things like wax worms, which are purely fat, i have heard can cause an animal to become spoiled and refuse to eat anything but that , leading to severe crashes.I'm sure those were extreme cases, just thought i'd share. Good luck.

If you do feed waxworms, consider them treats. It's true that they are pretty much just solid fat. I give my leopard gecko three waxworms every two to three weeks. Even then I also feed three staple items such as mealwworms or crickets. I've never fed my gecko pinkies before, so I'm not much help there, but I've that one pinky sparinglymixes up the options every once in a while. That being said, there really is no need for waxworms or pinkies, they just offer variety to your geckos. Your geckos should reach breeding weight without any extra fatty items such as waxworms and pinkies.
Hope this helps,
Brian

Dubia roaches are great to put weight on an animal. Previous posters are right, use waxworms very sparingly and I'd like to add that there really is no need to feed a leopard gecko pinkies at all. Leos are insectivores and a large dubia is way more nutrition than a pinky mouse anyway.
