First of all, one needs to consider the size of the individual specimens...well, after you cast aside other people's opinions on minimum caging requirements, that is. Secondly, the habits/behavior of the specific animals should be assessed. Thirdly, look at the cage size you are considering as applied to the species. Blackthroat monitors are not particularly arboreal (though they will climb if offered sturdy enough branches, they are not particularly graceful about it, lol). If you are working with an 8ft tall enclosure, you could consider turning it into 2 separate 4ft tall enclosures. If desired, you could leave an opening at one end that would allow the animals to move back and forth at will.
