Extensive Milk Snake Soaking

My Pueblan milk snake soaks in its water dish for extended periods of time nearly every day. Do other Pueblan owners experience this? Was wondering if this is normal behavior.

What are the temps on the cage? Usually the only time I have seen any snakes I have kept soaking in the water dish, it meant there was something wrong somewhere with the environment of their caging.

Thermal gradient is correct 70 cool side, 85-90 on warm side. Humidity hovers around 70% on the cool side and has a humid hide. Also a warm side hide, and a basking spot.

Have you checked for mites? No disrespect intended, but snakes with mites will also spend a lot of time in the water bowl.

I agree with all Rich's troubleshooting ideas, and will add that it could be that the snake has chosen the water bowl as a hide over the few others provided.

If there's not a really good range of hides (different temps, different sizes, some plastic and some natural materials) adding some would give some more hints as to what the snake is up to. I like cork bark (both flats and rounds) since they give really random choices rather than a simple smoothsided rectangle.

Posting some photos of the enclosure might allow experienced eyes to see something relevant, as would giving a short history of the snake (age, when did you get it, from what sort of source, etc)

Milk Snake Extensive Soaking

Enclosure environment is correct. 70 degrees cool side, 85-90 warm side, average humidity 70%, hides on both sides, basking spot. A nearly complete shed a few days ago. Still likes to soak!

Well, maybe that snake just likes the idea of having it's own private soaking pool. They all have individual personalities, so you can't rule out the possibility that your particular animal doesn't follow the playbook of every other Pueblan milk snake.

Yes, seems content to use all the spaces regularly, Re: your other questions, just came come home a month ago from a NW Reptile trade show, purchased from a breeder as an adult, approx. three years old. Don't have more history, seems quite tame though not surprisingly musked me on first handling! Thanks for your input, nice to chat.

Cool. Keep us posted -- likely others will have a similar question in the future.
