Please note that the information requested during registration will be used to determine your legitimacy as a participant of this site. As such, any information you provide that is determined to be false, inaccurate, misleading, or highly suspicious will result in your registration being rejected. This is designed to try to discourage as much as possible those spammers and scammers that tend to plague sites of this nature, to the detriment of all the legitimate members trying to enjoy the features this site provides for them.
Of particular importance is the REQUIREMENT that you provide your REAL full name upon registering. Sorry, but this is not like other sites where anonymity is more the rule.
Also your TRUE location is important. If the location you enter in your profile field does not match the location of your registration IP address, then your registration will be rejected. As such, I strongly urge registrants to avoid using a VPN service to register, as they are often used by spammers and scammers, and as such will be blocked when discovered when auditing new registrations.
Sorry about all these hoops to jump through, but I am quite serious about blocking spammers and scammers at the gate on this site and am doing the very best that I can to that effect. Trust me, I would rather be doing more interesting things with my time, and wouldn't be making this effort if I didn't think it was worthwhile.

When do u over power a ranco thermostat
Ive got a question...
I have a ranco theremostat with the power strip conected from reptile basics, I was wondering if I could plug another power strip into the one attached to the ranco and not worry about over doing it?
I have the thermostat on 2 racks, One that is a 9 slot each shelf with 12" long sections of 11" flexwatt bellyheat, and a another 7 shelf each with 4" flexwatt about 16"long (belly heat).
If I had all of them hooked up into one thermostat, each flexwatt with its own plug, into a powerstrip plugged into the power strip connected to the ranco, will the ranco be able to easily support this or am I pushing it?
If I knew how much wattage the flexwatt put out I'd just do the math, but I dont. My ranco is quoted to handle 1500watts.
Thx for ur time

11" is 20w/ft
4" is 8w/ft
The issue won't be that you exceed the limits of the Tstat, it will be that you are heating two different racks, with two different heat sources. You probably won't get satisfactory results on both racks if you run them on the same thermostat.

I have been using Ranco's for 4 years and I have only had one fail. When it did it shut off not "stuck on". Ranco's can handle 1500w of heat tape. But to heat both racks evenly with one Ranco you need each piece of flex watt to be exactly the same wattage and length and they need to be wired in the same way with the same gauge and length wire. If not you will notice that one rack's temps are higher then the others. Art know's all about it. Give him a call if you want to and he will help explain it more if you want.
