Thumbs up sexing without probing

HI

I am new to corn snakes and have at present two adult corn snakes, one is 4 and a half foot long and the other is just under 4 foot.

The question is how do i know if i have a male and a female without probing the snakes as i don,t know how to, i also wouldn,t like to cause them any harm by trying.

Any opinions or comments would be greatly appreciated.

Rabbyroo.

At their age and size, the only reliable way to sex them is to have them probed BY AN EXPERT. You may be able to get an idea by looking at their tails, but this way is not always accurate. An adult male's tail will be fairly large just past the vent and taper gradually. An adult female's tail will narrow almost immediately after the vent. You should view the tails from all angles. And again, THIS METHOD IS NOT 100% RELIABLE!

Find an expert to sex it, a vet may do it for a small fee. The tail method is not great by any means. I know you didn't wanna hear something that was going to cost you money but it's the only way.

Other sort of sick thing I tell people. Is to buy a probe set ($20), then take it with you road hunting and try probing the harmless dead snakes you find. Nice way to get practice without hurting any living snake and it's not a good reason for a snake to die but at least it's not a total waste.
