my thoughts, how are you measuring your temps?

I am betting it is too hot and the snake is trying to escape the heat.

i'm using an overhead 50W light, and i have thermostat inside the tank. would a larger enclosure make a difference?

What type of thermo are you using (if it is the little stick on ones they are notoriously crappy)? Also, is that the 18x18x24 exo tank or the 12x12x18 exo tank?

I use, almost exclusively, an infrared heat gun. You don't have to buy the ones specifically marketed for reptiles most auto places will have them too and they work just fine, and are cheaper. I really like them because they allow you to determine the exact temperature of the hot spot you are creating. I do this with my bearded dragon cages. The other ones that I use are digital temperature probes, even the ones from Lowes/Home Depot/Wal-Mart/etc are pretty good.

okay i'll get one today then, do you think the enclosure is too small? the snake fully stretched out is probably 2ft.

I think the tank size is probably ok for now. Let us know the exact temps once you get a gun or digital thermometer. The bulb you are using might be too big. I use a 50W reptile bulb for my bearded dragon cages and it raises the temps to over 100 degrees within about 6" of the bulb. The digital thermometer will help determine if you have to change the bulb. Bay Area will also be able to give you some ideas since they are the ones that had this snake last.

yes I have a Ryobi temp gun. Came from home depot for 20 bucks and is dead on. With that you can temp the snake, The ground where he is laying, and the perch where he should be. Is he still on the ground and have you heard from them yet ?
