Egg size.
Last year, I had a clutch with one egg noticeably larger than the other. I had separated the eggs thinking that the larger egg would hatch first and maybe turn the other egg causing it to die. I had was surprised that they actually started to peep at the same time (got to watch, it was great). However it turned out the larger egg had a tiny hatchling and the smaller egg had a larger hatchling. Someone had mentioned that this is normal. That the larger eggs have smaller hatchlings and smaller eggs have larger hatchlings.
My one female has consistently laid large eggs, almost the size of a ready to hatch egg. They also have not seem to grown much during the incubation. However I can see the embryos inside and they seem of a nice size, but I won't know for sure for about a week when they hatch.
I guess I have two questions.
1. Has anyone notice the size of the egg and the size of the hatchling in this manner?
2. What about a female that lays large eggs? How have the hatchlings fared, and the mommy?
