SANTA ISABEL ISLAND BOA

Hello,

Does anyone have personal knowledge on the Santa Isabel Island Boa? They have awesome markings and I was thinking about getting one but I keep reading that they don't do well in captivity, even the captive bread. I've read several things that say it is difficult to get them to eat. Anyone have experience with these boas and can you tell me if this is true and they are not a good snake to get? Thanks!

I had a solomon island ground boa for several years and he was a very good eater when he was young. I'd heard about how you sometimes have to rub an anole (or some kind of small lizard) on their food to get them to eat, but I never had that problem. He actually ate his first meal out of my hands (he was so small I had to feed him a f/t pinky head!). When he reached maturity though, he began fasting for 5 to 6 months out of the year. That really scared me at first, but he never lost much weight, and he always compensated during the rest of the year. Personally I prefer ball pythons, but even they can be pickier eaters than my solomon island was. If you want a VERY small boa, and you are experienced with finicky eaters, then I would recommend one of these guys. Beautiful snakes.
