New Here..??'s re: snake& Bearded dragon

Hi everyone. My name is Dawn, and I'm new to this board. I hope I'm putting this on the right board.

I just purchased a little garter snake and a Bearded Dragon (normal).

I wanted to ask if anyone is familiar with "Bed-A-Beast" bedding?

It comes in a block and you soak it. It's hard to describe, but once soaked, it's a mossy like texture. It's VERY soft.

Would this be an o.k. substrate for the Beardie (completely dried of course)? I've got washed sand for his substrate, but was thinking about using this stuff on one side of his cage.

Also, are Mexican Petunias o.k. to feed Beardies? I don't want to feed him anything "weird" in fear of harming him.

Thanks for any suggestions!

I've used the bed-a-beast with dragons before--it's ok, though gets EVERYWHERE....you may want to try mixing it with sand and 'baking' it some under heat lights and see if you can get a semi-hard substrate, like they would live on in the wild. I always wanted to try this, and never seemed to have time when I still had dragons.

As for the Mexican Petunias, do a search for borderview bearded dragons, and he has some WONDERFUL info on his site (Bill Mears) about what is and is not edible.

And for a last note, this will probably be moved to the bearded dragon discussion forum.

Hope I've helped,
Jennifer
