I have been talking to a guy who has a red & black snake, no yellow or white bands on it.  It was sold to him by a pet store as a CalKing.  I don't know of any variation of CalKing with red on it, and can't seem to locate  milk or king with only red and black.  Anyone have Ideas what kind of snake this is?

I have a tangerine honduran milk who looks red and black, it's only with close inspection that you notice that some of his bands are orange. That's all I can think of. Is there any way you can get a picture?

Here is a chart with pix of the kingsnake/milksnake family. Perhaps you can give him this URL to try to locate his snake on it.

Hope it helps, although if it is an aberrant california kingsnake (I hope that is the right term), it probably won't help.

There is a mud snake that is red and black (only) that I believe is sometimes referred to as a Clark (Clarke) snake (not sure of spelling).  I don't know if it is considered a type of kingsnake or what species of snake it is.  They can be found here in Louisiana and I'm sure possibly other states.  I'm not really into snakes but this is the one that came to mind when I saw the ? and coloring.  I hope this might help.

There's a post on kingsnake.com milksnakes with a picture of a red and black milksnake that you might want to look at.
