Here's a pic of Sylvester my sharp-tailed snake. He's about doubled in size since I took this pic and the faint red stripes have faded. He's a neat little snake and very low maintenance. So far, he's been eating slugs exclusively. I tried a variety of prey items intitially, but slugs were the only ones taken. Since my yard has way more slugs than a silngle sharp-tal could possibly eat, I have no problem keeping him well fed. He's the long tailed variety by the way.

Definitely a nice looking snake Alice, how come we've never seen it on the Small Terrestrial Snakes forum?? How big is the snake these days? Drop me an email sometime, Helmz777@aol.com

I've actually got some more recent pics posted on that forum. I posted them at the beginning of November. This pic was actually taken right after I found him, but I like it because his stripes were a lot brighter. He looks to be around 10 inches or so now. There's also a little thread on sharp-tails on the ks rosy, rubber and sand forum Here's one of the recent shots:

In that pic it looks like it's mouth is open, what's that all about?

He does have it open in that pic, I'm not sure why. I didn't even realize it until I looked at the pics so it must have only been open for a second. He's not one to sit still, so I think he was a little ticked. To get the pics, I had to kind of ball him up in my fist, open my hand, and get a quick pic before he darted; I'm sure you know the drill I think it's a neat shot, I never realized that they had black mouths before.
