I personally don't own any WC, nor would I because of the potential unforseen porblems that could arise. However there will always be problem feeders from time to time. Whether its bringing a new animal in, a new enclosure, or any number of reasons as they are easily stressed. And when a ball has been fed a steady diet of one kind, you play heck converting them.
Since its here, the object is faking out the snake. Buy 4 or 5 gerbils and (asuming they are all brown) buy a brown rat around the same size and color. House the rat in the same enclosure for a day or so. The smell of the gerbils will outweigh the scent of the rat, along with the fact they are visually similar in color. The size is very critical as well. Gerbils don't get too big, so you'll need probably a small rat in the 40 gram range. Get anything bigger and it will take a defensive posture and strike at it but not eat.
Attempt to feed it after a day and give it a little while to feed, but watch it closely. If it doesn't eat it, pull it out and re-house the rat with the gerbils and try the next day. You have to have some serious patients and the complete conversion may take a couple of months but it will work. My guess is that it will work the first couple of times trying.
Good Luck
