BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Police have arrested a man accused of leaving several dogs in the blistering heat. One dog died on Walden Avenue in Buffalo.
Somebody in the house on Walden Avenue called the SPCA Thursday afternoon to tell them they had some dogs to give up for adoption. Investigators had no idea that when they arrived they would find three mixed breeds in really bad shape and suffering from heat stroke.
One of the three dogs died soon after investigators arrived. The other two dogs were taken to the SPCA were they are recovering and expected to survive. Thadeus Garner has been arrested in connection with this case. The Executive Director of the SPCA is outraged.
"This is unconscionable. Dogs are unable to sweat. They cannot get rid of the heat like you and I can. We have to stop leaving our dogs outside in the sun, in this kind of weather," said Erie County SPCA Executive Director Barbara Carr.
The SPCA returned to the Walden Avenue home Thursday evening. Earlier in the afternoon, they had discovered a few puppies in the home as well as the three grown dogs. To try and save three dogs, they left the puppies behind. Someone came to the home and removed the puppies, and investigators are now trying to discover who took them.
