This thread was somewhat hi-jacked. Here's one to put it back on track.

"They never open their mouths without subtracting from the sum of human knowledge." --- Thomas Brackett Reed

Unfortunately this is proven true on a regular basis.

Here's one fresh and used for the first time today.

dand, why are you such a coward that your only compadre seems to be a devil with a silver tongue who, despite the knowledge of its metallic origins, cannot seem to help trying to bite it off on a regular basis?

Still waiting on that answer to that question dand.

How about:

It's hard to have a battle of wits with the unarmed.

Heres one from this very thread that made me happy.

"Not true... The intelegent and powerful people do run around.

While intelligent people sit back and laugh and thank the heavens that ignorance is not contagious. "

Fits well here

I'm relatively new to this forum.I have read a lot of posts. And made some of my own.
But this quote is one that resonates with a volume when i read certain posts.

Better to remain silent and be thought a fool,
Then to speak out and remove all doubt.
Abraham Lincoln

Words more people should learn to live by.

On the lighter side:

"Oh, you hate your job? Why didn't you say so? There's a support group
for that. It's called EVERYBODY, and they meet at the bar." -- Drew Carey

Here is one from each side.

Two of my favorites...both uncredited.

"It is better to remain silent and be presumed an idiot than to speak...and remove all doubt"

and

"Just bring me my coffe and a donut and back away slowly"

Look at my post a couple posts above yours,
i belive your quote is an offshoot of Abraham Lincolns that i quoted.
