Recessive to recessive

When breeding two recessive traits together with two homozygous animals what do you get?

For example: Pied x Albino

Do you get albinos het to pie or pies het to albino?

From what I understand you end up with pieds het to albino and if you want the double recessive albino pieds you have to then breed those two together and then you have a chance of getting an albino pied.

I could grab the scratch paper and scribble the squares out myself to do the math...but I'm feeling lazy tonight.

So...thoughts?

a visual pied x visual albino = all offspring will be normal looking but be 100% het pied and albino. if you then breed those offspring together you have a chance at making an albino pied.

Really? Now where does the 'normal' come from if the adults are homozygous for recessive traits?

need to have 2 copies of the recessive trait to pass on visual offspring, if only 1 parent of each passes on 1 gene then you get hets.

I said the same thing a decade ago when I first started dabbling in these morphs, I had to go back and touch up on how to use a punnet square and it made things alot easier to understand. But they are correct, Albino X Pied = 100% Double Het Albino Pied.

If you were hoping for albino het pied babies, you'd need to breed an albino x pied het albino. Then 1/2 the babies would be albino and 1/2 normals (on paper, but reality will vary). All the babies would be het pied, and the normals would also be het for albino.

Even if you breed 2 co-dom traits together (i.e. mojave x pastel) you'll most likely get a normal or two, but the chances of normals decreases.
